I’ve signed a letter calling for the government to provide assurances that all social care workers will receive adequate sick pay if they’re affected by the coronavirus outbreak and need to self isolate.
Our social care staff work incredibly hard all year round to support older people and those with care needs, many of whom will be in high risk categories for coronavirus.
Currently care workers on zero hours contracts (who make up a quarter of our social care workforce) are not being granted the same access to sick pay as NHS bank staff and subcontractors. The government must act to address this urgently.
