Last week I had an adjournment debate on protections for new homebuyers. I’ve campaigned on this issue for a while following examples I’ve seen of shoddy and sometimes dangerous workmanship from unscrupulous developers in my constituency. What’s more, there’s a shocking lack of redress for homebuyers when things go wrong. I’ve said this before, but the current situation means you have more consumer protections when buying a toaster than you do when buying a house! This urgently needs to change and that’s why, yesterday, I shared my constituents’ experiences with the Minister and made some suggestions for how policy this area can quickly and effectively be improved. You can watch highlights from the debate below and read the full transcript with the Minister’s response here: https://hansard.parliament.uk/…/701D2657-552D-4DFB-8A17-23F…

The Minister said that he’d take the contributions I made and the experiences of constituents I shared into account when making policy in the coming weeks and months. Rest assured, I’ll make sure I hold the government to this!
