Kate is inviting constituents to come and have a cuppa and a chat with her and Harriet Harman MP, on Friday 4 October, 2pm – 3.30pm, in St Marys Church Hall, Davyhulme.

Harriet Harman, MP for Camberwell and Peckham, is standing for election to be the next speaker of the House of Commons, following John Bercow’s resignation earlier this month.

Although only MPs can vote in the contest for who will be the next Speaker, Harriet is visiting Trafford to hear what local people think about the state of politics and parliament.

The Speaker is the chief officer and the highest authority in the House of Commons. They chair parliamentary debate to call MPs to speak, to keep order, and to instruct when votes should be taken.

Harriet has served as an MP since 1982 and is the longest-serving female MP in parliament. She has been a longstanding campaigner for a more family friendly parliament, and, if elected, has pledged to be a radically reforming Speaker.

Kate said, “I’m really pleased to be welcoming Harriet to chat with local residents. It’s really important that the next Speaker connects the work of parliament with the views of local people and I’m confident that Harriet will do just that.

“Everyone is welcome to come and have a cuppa, a cake and a chat with me and Harriet – I look forward to seeing as many people as possible on 4 October.

“For more information or to let me know if you’d like to come along, then please contact my office on 0161 749 9120 or e-mail me at kate.green.mp@parliament.uk.”
