A quick update for constituents who’ve had problems with car park operators imposing unreasonable penalties.
I met the British Parking Association on Tuesday 13 May. Although parliament passed legislation some months ago to tighten up the rules and protect consumers, the government still hasn’t announced when it will begin a formal consultation on the parking code required by the Act, but the BPA are considering a number of ideas, including suggesting a defined set of circumstances when an appeal against a penalty should be granted. They mentioned a few useful websites for motorists, including https://www.resolver.co.uk/complaints/motoring-complaints, www.disabledmotoring.org and https://popla.co.uk/.
But if you’re a constituent and you have a problem with a private parking operator that you can’t resolve, please just email me email@example.com, and I’ll be happy to do what I can to help
