Local voluntary sector
Voluntary organisations in Stretford and Urmston face a worrying future. Services for children with special educational needs, Victim Support, and funding for Partington’s popular Transmitter newsletter have already faced cuts, and a recent Audit Commission assessment of Trafford Council revealed the dissatisfaction of the voluntary sector at this state of affairs.
Labour councillors at the annual Council budget meeting in February proposed reallocating funding that would help voluntary organisations in Stretford and Urmston meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable people in our local community. But the Council was unrepentant, preferring instead to protect funding for a new “Transformation” team that will be responsible for…. more cuts.
Together with our local Labour Councillors, Kate’s campaigning for more funding for youth services, for vital welfare rights advice, and for proper support for our voluntary sector.
