Save our town centres

Partington town centre's a disgrace. Residents are desperate for action

Our town centres are suffering from neglect and indifference by Trafford Tories. In Urmston, work’s stopped on the new town centre, while once thriving Urmston market’s struggling. The “shopping centre” in Partington’s an absolute disgrace. And now Stretford Mall’s in trouble, with businesses and jobs at risk, and residents worried about the fate of
local shops.

I’m campaigning for a better deal for our town centres. It’s time to get everyone round the table to see what can be done. How we use the money from rents and from parking, input from local businesses, better planning - all need to be looked at but Trafford Tories haven’t lifted a finger - they wring their hands and blame the downturn but that hasn’t stopped improvements in Altrincham.

I’m out and about meeting local businesses to get ideas and suggestions. I’m asking local residents what you’d like to see in your neighbourhood. Many of you have already written to me with your ideas. Today I’m launching our “Tell Kate about Our Town Centre” campaign – I promise to take your ideas to landlords, business bodies, and local decision makers to fight for a better deal for people here.
