Kate urges parents, schools & young people to feed back on this summer’s GCSE marking fiasco

Considerable disquiet has been expressed to me about this summer’s GCSE results, particularly about the marking of GCSE English. A number of schools and young people in my constituency have already contacted me about the devastating impact that failure to secure the grades predicted is having on young people’s future choices about further and higher education, or their ability to secure employment or apprenticeships.

Concerns have already been expressed in parliament, and I believe that a full, indepedent inquiry into what has occurred is needed. Together with parliamentary colleagues, I will be pressing for this, but in the meantime, I’m asking anyone who’s concerned about what’s happened to sign the Downing Street petition that has been launched at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/37620.

I would be more than happy to discuss any particular concerns that constituents may have about the impact the marking has had on young people in Trafford, or to hear about any specific examples or problems. Please email me or phone me if you would like to discuss any apsect of this.
